Iraqi instructor teaches Arabic language, culture

HILLSBORO, Ore. – In today’s political climate, Abdulridha Olaiwi’s goal is to create understanding. The Iraqi native will teach a beginning Arabic language course this spring at Portland Community College, exposing students to the intricate sounds of his ancient culture. Arabic Conversation: Beginning Term I, a non-credit class, will give students an introduction to the Arabic alphabet writing system, simple conversational phrases and a familiarity with Iraqi culture. Olaiwi is an experienced adult teacher who will lead the class in a supportive, interactive environment. The class will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays, April 3 through June 5, at Century High School, 2000 S.W. 234th Ave. Cost is $75.
