PCC panel to discuss women in comics

CASCADE CAMPUS – Ever wonder about images of women in comic books? Portland Community College will host a panel that will explore the female body in comics."Images of Women in Comics"is set for 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 3 in Terrell Hall 101. This event is free and open to the public. There will be door prizes and giveaways. The panel discussion will include a group of individuals involved in the comic book industry.This will include Diana Schutz, who has been employed in the comic book industry since 1978, when she began selling comics in Vancouver, B.C. Schutz started the small business Comico and became one of a rare handful of high-profile female editors in the comics industry. In 1990, Schutz moved to Portland, to accept an editorial position at Dark Horse Comics. She is widely regarded as one of the industry’s top editors. She has a master’s degree from the University of Portland and taught a course, Introduction to the Art of Comics Books, at the Sylvania Campus last year.The Cascade Campus Women’s Resource Center and the American Association of Women in Community Colleges sponsor this panel discussion.
