Safety, anger, tantrums focus of PCC parenting series

PORTLAND, Ore. – Parenting doesn’t come with a set of instructions, and in today’s busy world, a family can too easily take a backseat to other priorities. This spring, take time out to strengthen your parenting skills and prepare to cope with a range of situations through a Portland Community College non-credit lecture series. Instructor Betsey Carrillo will lead the Positive Parenting Series in a supportive environment in which parents can safely discuss challenges The three-part series will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesdays, April 22 through May 6, at Lincoln High School, 1600 S.W. Salmon St. Cost is $12 for the complete series or $5 per individual lecture. Topics will include:Talking with Your Kids about Safety (April 22). Learn age-appropriate communication techniques to impart safety lessons without scaring your kids. Find out why "stranger danger"is not enough.Anger Management for Parents (April 29). From terrible two’s to tumultuous teens, each life stage can become a trying time for parents. Learn coping strategies for those angry feelings and how to approach problems proactively. Taming Tantrums (May 6). Parenting feeling like a chore? Tired of arguing and nagging? Learn effective strategies for taming tantrums and how to avoid them before they start.
