Glass fusion classes feature sparkling art, jewelry

TIGARD, Ore. – Discover how to turn shards of glass into stunning pieces of art. This summer, Portland Community College will offer an array of non-credit classes in the medium of glass fusion – an art form for which the Northwest is famous around the world.Glass fusion classes will give you the knowledge to start designing and making your own glass art, from jewelry and tiles up to larger pieces. Students will discover techniques for melding colors to complement their personal style and coordinate with their home.All classes will take place at Rose’s Glassworks & Gifts, 10105 S.W. Hall Blvd. in Tigard. Class offerings are as follows: Stained Glass: For All Skill Levels. Instructor Pam McDougal will help all levels of students advance their skills with stained glass projects that require no purchased tools. The class will meet from 9:30 a.m. to noon, Thursdays, July 10 through Aug. 28. Cost is $190. Glass Bead Making. Instructor Karen Moyer will show students how to work with oxygen/propane torches and solid glass rods to create unique glass beads. The class will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, July 12. Cost is $159. Fused Glass: Make a Plate. Instructor Patti Curtin will lead students to design their own seven-inch plate for use as a centerpiece or holder. The class will meet from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, July 19. Cost is $75. Stained Glass: Stepping Stones. Instructor Pam McDougal will help you add sparkle to your yard or garden. The class will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, July 19. Cost is $65. Glass Bead Making: Intermediate. Instructor Karen Moyer returns to deepen students’ bead-making skills, including special decorative techniques. The class will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 23. Cost is $179. Beginning Glass Fusing. Instructor Patti Curtin will teach students the basics through several glass design projects.
