Photos and story by

TUALATIN, Ore. – Stress, aches and pains, lack of energy – for more than 5,000 years, yoga has helped people overcome these problems and live healthier lives. Now you can experience the healing benefits of regular yoga practice with a Portland Community College class.Yoga Level I, a non-credit class, is a great introduction to the fundamentals. Instructor Stacie Attridge concentrates on poses that enforce strength, improve flexibility, breathing and relaxation while giving you a sense of focused calm. Students can emerge from the class with a lifelong exercise method that requires no special equipment. One of the key rewards of a regular yoga routine is stress management. Yoga offers techniques for regaining your focus and calm, not just on a floor mat, but as you go about your day. The result is a greater sense of peace and awareness, as well as increased productivity. The class will meet from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., Fridays, June 27 through Aug. 29, at the Tualatin Senior Center, 8535 S.W. Tualatin Road. Cost is $55. Students are asked to bring a blanket. For more information, contact PCC Community Education at 503-538-9774.
