Go behind the scenes with PCC online film literacy class

PORTLAND, Ore. – Serious cinema buffs to the average moviegoer can enhance enjoyment of films by understanding the theories and history behind them. A non-credit Portland Community College class, offered completely online, will allow you to explore the fascinating world of film right from your home computer.Film Literacy for Everyone will help you develop a deeper appreciation of the people who make movies by understanding production and distribution. Get behind the scenes on editing, camerawork, lighting, sound, mise-en-scene and special effects. Students will finish the class being able to talk about and analyze movies more intelligently, and enjoy a greater selection of films to watch.Emma Cornell, Ph.D., will teach the class. Cornell is a university teacher of film theory and history, and uses film to teach English composition. She authored a widely-used university text on now to teach film and created a film database for other teachers.Held online via the Internet, the class offers the flexibility to open lessons whenever your schedule allows and features discussion boards with other students. New six-week classes will begin monthly throughout the fall on Wednesdays, Sept. 17, Oct. 8, Nov. 5 and Dec.10. Cost is $79.
