Naturopathic medicine series offers healthy, natural remedies

PORTLAND, Ore. – Discover how to incorporate natural, alternative healthcare approaches into your daily life, straight from a naturopathic doctor. Portland Community College will present a series of non-credit classes featuring Dr. Elise Schroeder with step-by-step techniques for treating illness and creating wellness at home. Naturopathic Medicine Series in S.W. Portland will consist of nine classes, taking place from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 14 through March 3, in Room 132 at Wilson High School, 1151 S.W. Vermont St. Cost is $85 for the series; $20 for an individual lecture. Topics are as follows:? Naturopathic First Aid (Jan. 14). Learn how to build a naturopathic first aid kit for headaches, stomachaches, cuts and abrasions, burns, strains and sprains. Great for traveling too.? Naturopathic Medicine for Weight Loss (Jan. 21). Discover naturopathic strategies to improve overall body health and promote a healthy body weight by burning fat and keeping nutrients. ? Naturally Healthy Heart (Jan. 28). Focus on prevention and treatments for the most common cause of death and disease in America. Diet and lifestyle modifications will be stressed, as well as starting your children on the prevention path.? Herbs for Health and Healing (Feb. 4). Gain a comprehensive view of herbs and how they are used to treat common ailments. Improve vitality and overall health through herbs.? Herbal Medicine Making (Feb. 11). This hands-on session teaches "how-to" techniques and recipes to make your own herbal remedies. It’s a great way to use your knowledge of herbs and naturopathic medicine. ? Colds, Flues and Respiratory Ailments (Feb. 18). Discuss the use of herbs, nutritional supplements, dietary changes and breathing exercises to improve respiratory ailments.? Allergies, Food Intolerances and Toxicity (Feb. 25). Learn to recognize food allergies and intolerances, and which foods can be beneficial to your system.? Naturally Balancing Mood and Tension (March 3).
