20th Annual Gospel Extravaganza set for Feb. 28

NORTH PORTLAND – Portland Community College will help host the 20th Annual Gospel Extravaganza at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28 at the Vancouver Avenue First Baptist Church, located at 3138 N. Vancouver.The gospel event, whose theme this year is "Why are we here??, is free and open to the public. Entertainment includes performances from the St. Luke Lutheran Church Choir, Young People of Zion, the Visualize Mime team and many others. Organizers will be taking orders for audio or visual tapes of this year’s event. The tapes are $10 and $20, respectively. There will be "Souvenir Book"highlighting the history of the past Gospel Extravaganzas. The souvenir book will be available during the evening of the musical event in exchange for donations.A special banquet to celebrate the 20th year is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 27 at 6:30 p.m. at the University Commons’ Terrace Room, University of Portland, 5000 N. Willamette Blvd. Vanessa Gaston, director of the Urban League, will be the guest speaker. There will be live music. The banquet ticket price is $25 or $250 for a table that seats 10. The dinner is at 7 p.m.The proceeds collected from the banquet and Gospel Extravaganza will help support the PCC Foundation scholarship fund. For more information, call 503-943-2244.
