PCC celebrates Asian new year at new SE Center

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Community College will celebrate the Asian New Year with music, entertainment, food, vendors, door prizes and much more. The event is set for Monday, Feb. 16, 2004 at PCC’s new Southeast Center, located at the corner of Southeast 82nd Avenue and Division Street, 2305 S.E. 82nd Ave.The scheduled events include dragon dancers at 11 a.m., martial arts demonstrations at 11:15 a.m., Vietnamese dancers at 11:30 a.m., and Portland Taiko, a Japanese drum group, at 11:45 a.m. Portland Taiko’s presentations weave Taiko performance with stories and audience participation. The group will emphasize the synthesis of ancient Japanese traditions and contemporary Asian American expression. The Neighborhood Arts Program of Portland sponsors the 45-minute performance. The event is free and open to the public.
