PCC-Southeast celebrates ESL Awareness

SOUTHEAST PORTLAND – The Southeast Center will host the annual English as a second language Awareness Celebration Day at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 29 in Mt. Tabor Hall, 2305 S.E. 82nd Ave.Staff, students and the public are invited to enjoy performances by students and professional performers. There will also be ethnic refreshments, displays of cultural items, students’ class works and information about the ESL program. The event is free and open to the public.Cultural performances include Flamenco dancing, the Chinese musical instrument "zither," dances from the Middle East and music and songs from Zimbabwe by students. There will be displays in Mt. Scott and Mt. Tabor halls.In 1995, Gov. John Kitzhaber proclaimed and endorsed English as a Second Language (ESL) Awareness Week.
