Photos and story by James Hill
PORTLAND, Ore. – There are those who have made a bundle buying and selling items on eBay. What you may not know is just how easy it is to work the angles of the Internet auction site for yourself. An online, non-credit class offered by Portland Community College shows how to leverage the popularity of eBay with key techniques for finding treasures and making money. Learn to Buy and Sell on eBay will teach you how to create titles that get noticed, craft advertising copy that sells items for top dollar and upload photos of items you are selling. Buyers will learn how to assess value for almost any item, how to get the best possible price, protect yourself from fraud and compete against other bidders and win. The class also completely explains how to conduct financial transactions safely, including credit card payments and shipping and packing items hassle-free. The online format of Learn to Buy and Sell on eBay makes it easy to test out new skills on the Internet site immediately. "I was first looking for an on-campus eBay class, but once I got started I knew this was the place to be," read one recent student evaluation. "I have enjoyed the flexibility, the lessons, and being able to work on the eBay site as I went along." Held entirely online via the Internet, the six-week class offers the flexibility to open lessons whenever your schedule allows and features discussion boards with the instructor and other students. The class will be offered four times this fall: choose from Sept. 15 through Oct. 22, Oct. 20 through Nov. 26, Nov. 10 through Dec. 17, or Dec. 8 through Jan. 14. Cost is $79.
