PORTLAND, Ore. – Looking for a new travel destination? Consider paying a visit to the world beneath the sea. Portland Community College will now offer non-credit scuba lessons to acquaint you with the mystifying marine life in our oceans. The Discover Scuba program lets you experience the thrill of diving in pool conditions under the supervision of a PADI professional. Students will master basic concepts and scuba skills to embark on their own scuba adventure. "If you’ve ever wanted to try scuba diving, this is the perfect opportunity to give it a shot without spending a fortune on gear and private lessons," said Julie Wolleck, PCC Community Education manager. "All it takes is one Saturday to discover a fascinating new hobby." The one-day class will be offered three times from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. this fall. Choose from: Saturday, Oct. 9; 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 23; Saturday, Nov. 13. The lecture portion of the classes will be held at PCC’s Southeast Center, 2305 S.E. 82nd Ave., and the diving will take place at Nelson’s Nautilus Gym, 8333 N.E. Russell. Cost is $19 plus a $40 fee payable to eNRG. No certification is provided. For more information, contact PCC Community Education at 503-788-6265.
