Photos and story by James Hill
PORTLAND, Ore. – What better way to learn Web site design than with an online class? Portland Community College will offer the chance to practice powerful graphic design techniques from your home computer and create a website that dazzles visitors. Designing Effective Websites will teach you just what attracts people and how you can create the most satisfying experience for those visitors. You’ll learn to use typography, aesthetics, color, graphics, and page layout to create the most compelling user interface possible. Instructor Patricia Franks will demonstrate how users read on the Web and the characteristics of effective Web writing. Held entirely online via the Internet, the six-week class offers the flexibility to open lessons whenever your schedule allows and features discussion boards with the instructor and other students. The class will be offered three times this winter: choose from Jan. 19 through Feb. 25, Feb. 16 through March 25, or March 16 through April 22. Cost is $69.
