Photos and story by James Hill
BEAVERTON, Ore. – From Japanese ceremonial houses to English breakfast tables, tea has brewed a long and rich history. Find out why the ancient drink has been held in such high regard in so many cultures with a new, non-credit tasting class offered by Portland Community College. Experts from local shop The Tea Zone will introduce students to the subtle flavors of white, green, black, oolong teas and more in An Introduction to the World of Teas. Students will learn the art of making the perfect cup while discussing tea customs and health benefits. As a grand finale, the class will culminate in a traditional tea ceremony. The four-week class will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 11 through Feb. 1, in Room 1543 at the PCC Washington County Workforce Training Center, 18624 N.W. Walker Road. Cost is $39 plus $20 fee payable to The Tea Zone. For more information, contact PCC Community Education at 503-533-2707.
