PORTLAND, Ore. – Baby boomers, some 76 million strong, will begin to retire in the next decade. Faced with the spiraling cost of living, the search for new retirement havens may soon turn south of the border. A new non-credit class offered by Portland Community College will explore the possibilities of retiring in the warm climate of Latin America, and how to enjoy a richer lifestyle at a fraction of the cost.Retiring in Latin America will explain why seniors, snowbirds and savvy entrepreneurs alike are choosing to explore life in Costa Rica, Mexico, Belize and other Latin countries. Instructor Timothy Harris will discuss how to choose the right place and avoid common pitfalls. Learn about retiree visas and incentives, healthcare and insurance, buying property abroad and more. Students will emerge from class armed with information to make a wise choice about searching for their own tropical paradise.The class will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. for two Saturdays, April 2 and April 9, at the PCC Sylvania Campus, 12000 S.W. 49th Ave. Cost is $39.
