Paint birds in the style of John Audubon
Photos and story by James Hill
PORTLAND, Ore. – Bird watchers and art enthusiasts alike agree: America’s preeminent naturalist and bird artist is John Audubon. Now Portland Community College offers the chance to capture the spirit of Audubon for yourself in a new non-credit painting class. Painting the Birds of Audubon will give you the opportunity to create magnificent paintings of birds in the style of the great master. Instructor Karen Karlsson will explain how to duplicate the instantly recognizable detail of an Audubon bird using watercolor and colored pencils. The result is artwork that captures both the beauty of birds, and the essence of an important historical figure. The six-week class will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Mondays, May 2 through June 6, in Room 127 of Mt. Tabor Hall at PCC’s Southeast Center, 2305 S.E. 82nd Ave. Cost is $69.
