PCC offers free 'Survival English' for non-native speakers

BEAVERTON, Ore. – Know someone who could use help learning the English language? Point them to Portland Community College for free lessons in Survival English this spring. PCC’s non-credit Survival English program is designed to quickly increase language skills for non-native speakers in a supportive environment. Instructors Joyce Reilly and Judith Burraston will offer three levels free classes this spring; each class is eight weeks in length. Survival English: Level I, which requires no English, will will be offered twice this term. The first class will be held from 4:45 to 6:45 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, April 4 through May 25, in the Meeting Room at the Beaverton Community Center, 12350 S.W. 5th St. The second class will be held from 4:45 to 6:45 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, April 5 through May 26 in Room C-302 at Vose Elementary School, 11350 S.W. Denney Road. Survival English: Level II requires some prior English and will feature practice in real-world situations. The class will be held from 4:45 to 6:45 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, April 4 through May 25, in the Vose Room of the Beaverton Community Center. Survival English: Level III requires that students possess a foundation of English speaking ability, and prepares students to speak more fluently in real-world situations. The class will be held from 4:45 to 6:45 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, April 5 through May 26 in Room C-304 of Vose Elementary School.
