Tame Oregon rapids with white-water kayaking class

LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. – Whether you are new to the sport or have had experience, Portland Community College’s White Water Kayaking class will whet your appetite for adventure. This spring, learn from international adventure sport instructor David Wright and get a taste for kayaking on Oregon waterways. Learn new skills in a safe environment then take those new skills to the river while still under instructor supervision. Wright will teach you how to control the boat, various paddling strokes, turning, wet exit, safety skills and the Eskimo roll. The first four classes will be held in the pool; the last class will be on the river. "After this class, you’ll be ready to paddle the rivers," says Wright. "Kayaking is a great sport for any level the level of adventure is up to you." The non-credit class is offered at two different times as follows: from 5 to 7 p.m. or from 7 to 9 p.m. for four Thursdays, June 5 through June 26. Students will meet at the Pool of Lake Owego Senior High School, 2501 S.W. Country Club Road. Cost is $109. All equipment is included; students are asked to bring nose clips.
