PCC board welcomes two new members

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Community College’s Board of Directors have two new members following the Tuesday, May 17 election. Jim Harper was elected to Zone 4, which includes parts of southwest/northwest/southeast and downtown Portland, while Denise Frisbee will represent Zone 1, which encompasses Lake Oswego/Tigard/Tualatin/Sherwood. Harper secured 10, 984 votes versus 3,478 for runner-up candidate George Hendrix and 2,026 for Richard LaMountain. Frisbee ran unopposed.Also, incumbent Doreen Margolin won Zone 5, southwest and southeast Portland. Margolin defeated challenger David Squire 10,460 votes to 3,848. Another incumbent, Jaime Lim, ran unopposed in Zone 6, which includes east Washington County/southwest Portland."I look forward to working with all of them in the coming years," said PCC District President Preston Pulliams. "I also want to thank all of the candidates for their interest in supporting PCC."The PCC Board of Directors, elected to four-year terms, is responsible for the budget, the hiring of the district president, staff and faculty, and overall policy direction and governance of the college. Board meetings are held twice a month, in the evening, generally on the first and third Thursdays. This is a volunteer position; board members are not paid for their services.
