PCC Illumination Project addresses domestic violence

SYLVANIA CAMPUS – The Illumination Project at the Sylvania Campus is addressing sexual and domestic violence head-on with a series of interactive theater performances at the Sylvania Campus. The project consists of a diverse group of 20 student educators, who produce original plays drawn from the real-life experiences of the project’s members. According to a 1995 FBI report, a woman is beaten every nine seconds in the United States "Student educators inform their peers about recognizing, confronting and ultimately bringing an end to domestic and sexual violence," said Jeannie LaFrance, project coordinator. The Illumination Project schedule includes: From 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Terrell Hall 122 of the Cascade Campus and 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 12 at Portland State Universitys Shattuck Hall 225; 9:30 to 10:50 a.m. on Tuesday, May 17 at the Sylvania Campus Performing Arts Center lobby; 1 to 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18 at the Sylvania PAC lobby; 2 to 3:20 p.m. on Thursday, May 19 at the Sylvania PAC Lobby; 11:15 a.m. to noon on Friday, May 20 at the Trillium School; 11 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24 at the Sylvania PAC Lobby; 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 26 at the Sylvania Campus Little Theatre; and noon to 1 p.m. on Friday, May 27 at the Sylvania Little Theatre. Addresses of locations: Trillium School, 116 N. Page St.; PSU, 1914 S.W. Park St.; Sylvania Campus, 12000 S.W. 49th Ave.; and Cascade Campus, 705, N. Killingsworth St. Additional performances may be arranged for high schools, churches and community groups.
