SYLVANIA CAMPUS – Artists Katherine Bovee and Philippe Blanc are into computers literally. The two create art out of computer parts. They will showcase their exhibit, "Legacy: Boxed Version," a show consisting of artwork fashioned out of computer parts, from July 18 through Sept. 16 at the Northview Gallery on the Sylvania Campus. An artists’ talk and reception will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 28 in the gallery. The show explores the culture and vocabulary of the computer world by introducing them as creative objects. Each work employs the technology and vocabulary that are common in new media and in contemporary art. "They challenge the audience to explore the vocabulary of computers in new ways, isolating and making concrete these associations through the work," said gallery director and PCC visual arts instructor Marie Watt. "At the same time, they bring cliches and associations of artistic practice into the computer world, discussing these processes in terms familiar to the casual computer user."The Northview Gallery, located in Room 214 of the CT Building of the Sylvania Campus (12000 S.W. 49th Ave.), is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more information on this exhibition, contact Marie Watt, gallery director, at 503-977-8017.
