PCC, partners kick-off Killingsworth project

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Community College, Portland Development Commission, Portland Office of Transportation, Humboldt Neighborhood Association and local businesses are hosting a kick-off celebration for the $5 million of construction improvements on three-block area of North Killingsworth Street, between Michigan and Borthwick Avenues.The improvements include wider sidewalks, pedestrian scaled streetlights and new trees. It is part of the urban renewal efforts in the north Portland neighborhood.WHAT: A ceremony to celebrate the construction that began Aug. 1 on the first phase of public improvements. It will celebrate the community’s vision for a vibrant, mixed-use Killingsworth Main Street.WHEN: 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 18.WHERE: N. Killingsworth between Michigan and Mississippi (in the parking lot of the Public Services Education Building, Portland Community CollegeCascade Campus, 705 N. Killingsworth Street.WHO: Join members of the community along with City of Portland Mayor Tom Potter, Commissioner Sam Adams, Portland Development Commission Executive Director Bruce Warner, Preston Pulliams (PCC District President) and Algie Gatewood (Cascade Campus President) to celebrate the start of the North Killingsworth Street Improvements Project.
