PORTLAND, Ore. – Whether it’s apple, cherry, meringue or cream, good cooks know that regardless of the filling, a pie is not really a pie unless it’s made with a flaky crust. Learn how to conquer this classic cooking challenge just in time for the holidays. Portland Community College will offer a non-credit class this October to reveal the secrets of making perfect pie dough. Kristin Galegor, acclaimed local pastry chef, will teach The Basics of Pie Dough. Discover the simple but important tricks to ensuring that your crust comes out golden and flaky every time. Students will get to watch as Galegor assembles fruit and cream pies step-by-step, and sample each dessert as it emerges from the oven. Pick up tips for holiday baking! The one-day class will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Sheridan Fruit Company, S.E. Third Ave. Cost is $34.
