PORTLAND, Ore. – The presidents of Portland, Mt. Hood and Clackamas community colleges, as well as the Oregon Community College Association have met to discuss the possibility of providing for the needs of any Hurricane Katrina evacuees who might arrive in the metropolitan area. According to the Oregon Office of Emergency Management, there are no imminent plans for evacuees of Hurricane Katrina to arrive in Portland. However, PCC is on alert that this decision could change with 24 hours notice. If events change, the college will announce its plans. “We all have the victims of this horrific disaster in our hearts and minds. Our generosity is what is now needed,” said PCC District President Preston Pulliams. “Given that we do not now know whether we will be hosting evacuees, the greatest need is for funds to support the enormous voluntary relief efforts. We encourage you to make contributions to one of the following the charities.”Mercy CorpsP.O.
