PORTLAND, Ore. – The future of fire service is coming to Portland and the largest post-secondary institution in the state. Portland Community College is hosting the 2006 Oregon Governor’s Fire Service Summit "Vision for the Future 2030," from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7 and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 8 at the Moriarty Arts and Humanities Building at the Cascade Campus, 705 N. Killingsworth Street. This event is for Oregon’s fire service personnel, including career fire fighters and volunteer fire fighters, fire fighter emergency medical technicians and paramedics, company officers and chief officers. Cost of registration is $35. "This is the first event of this kind in the state of Oregon," said Ed Lindsey, fire science instructor at PCC. "Fire personnel should attend this because it is an opportunity to create a common state wide vision for the future. It is also a chance to look at the way fire service operates in Oregon and to discuss ways to improve services to the citizens of Oregon. Attending this event is playing a role in designing a plan for the future Oregon fire service." Guest speakers include Oregon Emergency Management Deputy Director Ken Murphy; Oregon State Fire Marshal Nancy Orr; Oregon Department of Forestry Director Tim Keith; Department of Public Safety Standards and Training Deputy Director Eriks Gabliks; Emergency Medical System and Trauma System Director Jeanne Arana; and Oregon Deputy State Economist Dae Baek.
