Visit to Heirloom Roses completes rose care series

ST. PAUL, Ore. – Heirloom Roses, one of the largest and most complete rose gardens in the country, boasts the Northwest’s widest selection of hybrid roses and specializes in old, new and unusual roses from around the world. Join Portland Community College and instructor Cheryl Malone at Heirloom Roses for a series of classes focused on roses. Heirloom Roses Series will meet monthly from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturdays, Jan. 14, Feb. 11 and March 18, at Heirloom Roses, 24062 Riverside Drive N.E. Cost is $25. Topics include: How to Choose the Right Rose (Jan. 14). Do you need help finding the perfect rose? Is your landscaping in need of a climber? Do you have a shady spot in your yard where you think you can’t grow roses? Let us show you the roses you’ve been dreaming of! Proper Pruning Techniques (Feb. 11). Learn new winter pruning techniques and participate in a discussion of this most important rose garden activity. You’ll get hands-on training in our south garden. Bring gloves and pruners and dress for the weather. Feeding and Care for Your Roses (March 18). Have you ever wondered what to feed your roses? Liquids or granular, time release or systemic? Amendments are important for healthy, beautiful roses. Find out which ones work and why, and the benefits and drawbacks of each.
