Gospel Extravaganza to honor spirit of MLK

PORTLAND, Ore. – On the evening of April 4, 1968, Martin Luther King, Jr. was standing on the balcony of his motel room in Memphis, Tenn., about to lead a protest march in sympathy with striking garbage workers of that city. In a matter of moments, he was assassinated. Portland Community College is honoring his life with the 22nd Annual Gospel Music Extravaganza at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan 14 in the Moriarty Arts Building Auditorium of the Cascade Campus, 705 N Killingsworth St. The theme of this year’s event is "35 Years of Diversity: Weaving an American Tapestry." The event is open to the public and promises to an unforgettable musical evening.More than 10 gospel choirs will entertain at this year’s extravaganza, which is free and open to the public.
