PCC-Rock Creek honors memory of MLK

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Community College, in conjunction with the Inter-Religious Action Network of Washington County, The Baha’is Community, and the City of Beaverton, is celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 15 in the Event Center at the Rock Creek Campus, 17705 N.W. Springville Rd. Parking is free and refreshments, including sweet potato pie, pound cake and coffee, will be served.Festivities include a reading of Langston Hughes poetry by Benjamin "Flooney" Hardy, music by the Joyful Noise Choir and a presentation honoring the contributions of Rosa Parks to civil and human rights. Both the Mayor of Beaverton Rob Drake and PCC District President Preston Pulliams will welcome guests. The City of Beaverton will showcase the winners of the 2005 Beaverton Student Human Rights essay contest. The Inter-Religious Action Network of Washington County will also present its annual "Everyday Hero" awards recognizing works of reconciliation in the community.For more information, call Amanda Ellertson at 503-614-7261.
