Become a fashion designer through new PCC Program

PORTLAND, Ore. – Ever dreamed of becoming a fashion designer? Let Portland Community College give you the training to join the likes of Nike, Columbia Sportswear and others of Portland’s top designers.
PCC’s Fashion Design Completion Program is designed for those who wish to advance their skills or develop careers in fashion design. The certificate of completion consists of nine foundation courses, a minimum of 20 hours of elective coursework, and 80-100 hours of professional internship. Classes, taught by instructor Eileen Celentano, will be offered in a sequenced order throughout the term. Students can complete all their coursework at night, within one year. All classes will meet at the PCC Sylvania Campus, 12000 S.W. 49th Ave.
Textiles are the medium used in the construction of your designs and a key to the design process. Identify fibers and fabrics and evaluate the structure and performance characteristics of the fabrics you use. Class examines finishes including wovens, knits and specialty textiles. The class will meet from 6 to 8:50 p.m. Tuesdays, April 4 through May 9. Cost is $119.
Through demonstrations learn techniques and develop skills in Patternmaking for Fashion Design I. Create patterns from basic pattern blocks. Some sewing experience required. The class will meet from 6:30 to 8:50 p.m. Thursdays, April 6 through May 25. Cost is $119.
Apparel Construction/ Beginning Sewing is an introduction to the basics of sewing using domestic and industrial machines. Become familiar with sewing methods to understand the design and drafting possibilities as well as the limitation in mass productions. Learn to identify the sewing techniques to be used for couture garments
The class will meet from 9 to 11:50 a.m. Saturdays, April 8 through May 27. Cost is $39.
