PORTLAND, Ore. – More than 400 area high school students are coming to Portland Community College’s Fifth Annual Diesel Career Fair.

The fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, April 21 in Room 117 of Building 2 at the Rock Creek Campus, 17705 N.W. Springville Road. Hands on learning sessions will be offered for students who wish to find out what today’s diesel technicians do in the field. Session topics include: air conditioning trouble shooting, anti-lock braking systems, bobcat skid steer operation, electrical component troubleshooting, electronic engine diagnostics, hydraulic system trouble shooting and more.

“Many of our local heavy equipment and truck companies will be here to show products and talk to students about opportunities within the diesel service fields,” said Russ Dunnington, diesel service mechanics instructor. “Everyone has a great time and they learn quite a bit. There is a bigger demand for diesel technicians today than I’ve seen in my entire career.”

The PCC Diesel Service Technology Department, Northwest Diesel Industry Council and local heavy equipment and heavy-duty truck companies are the sponsors of this year’s fair. Students will hear what local diesel employers have to say about the industry as they display the newest heavy equipment and medium and heavy-duty trucks.
