Students utilize power of PR in PCC non-credit classes

PORTLAND, Ore. – Used correctly, public relations skills can be powerful communication tools no matter what field you are in. Portland Community College non-credit classes focus on the skills necessary to use PR effectively, allowing students to come away confident in their ability to communicate clearly in any public sector. All classes will be held at the PCC Sylvania Campus, 12000 S.W. 49th Ave.
Get a comprehensive look at PR theory, ethics and practice in Fundamentals of Public Relations. Class will emphasize the PR planning process, media relations, finance/budgeting of PR projects, and project research/evaluation. Instructor Macy Guppy will provide students with an overall base for career exploration in the PR field. The two-day class will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:50 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 7 and April 8. Cost is $104.
Become confident and polished in public communications with PR Writing and Media Relations. Instructor Janis Collins covers writing skills for all types of promotional material, and teaches how to create copy and basic design for promotional pieces. Students will also polish their speaking skills and communication tactics. Walk away with a great addition to your career portfolio. The class will held from 6 to 8:50 p.m. Tuesdays, April 18 through May 23. Cost is $115.
Students will apply public relations practices, planning, writing and presentation skills needed to run Community Campaigns. Instructor Macy Guppy shows students how to use this service-learning model to benefit a nonprofit or small business. The class will meet from 9 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. Saturday, April 22, and from 6 to 8:50 p.m. Mondays, May 8 and May 22. Cost is $99.
Tap into the power of social consciousness in Fair Trade and Public Relations Branding. Learn from instructor Alistair Williamson about the successful product branding of “fair trade” and how it has impacted customer sales and public awareness. The one-day class will meet from 6 to 8:50 p.m. Wednesday, April 26. Cost is $29.
