National award for community building goes to RC's Ellertson

Photos and story by

Mandy Ellertson, student leadership coordinator at the Rock Creek Campus, was given the Two Year Professionals Award from the Association of College Union’s International (ACUI) in Kansas City, Mo. last month. The ACUI is a professional organization dedicated to community building on college campuses through college unions and student activity programs and centers.

There are more than 800 member schools from four-year universities and two-year colleges associated with ACUI. This award acknowledges someone from a community college who does outstanding work as a community builder on their college campus.

“It feels great to have my efforts as community builder on campus acknowledge and celebrated by my peers,” said Ellertson. “Craig Kolins, who has served as the Dean of Students at Rock Creek, surprised me by showing up for the ceremony in Kansas City. That meant as much as the award because it symbolized recognition and appreciation from the college as well.”

Congrats to Mandy!
