PCC receives $45,000 grant for gerontology, PAVTEC programs

Photos and story by

The PCC Grants Office has announced the award of $45,184 from the Oregon Department of Community Colleges and Workforce Development to the PCC Sylvania Gerontology Program and the PAVTEC program.

This one-year grant will support two efforts. The Gerontology program will develop a new 20-hour certificate for activity professionals. This certificate will apply directly towards the existing one-year certificate and two-year degree, as well as link with PCC’s articulation agreement with PSU and other Oregon universities.

The new pathway will combine the efforts of the Career Pathway Team, Gerontology, and PAVTEC, to build upon PCC’s successful Pathways to Advancement model. Individuals completing the certificate will be qualified to fill position in skilled nursing and assisted living facilities as well as community senior centers.

The grant will also allow the PAVTEC program to expand and streamline the capabilities of its Career Pathways Web site, allowing students, parents and educators to more easily access information about career pathways. The Web site information will be customized by creating specific plans of study that would provide secondary students information on specific relevant high school courses. It will also show available dual credit courses, and how they fit into program and degree programs. These materials would be developed in conjunction with statewide efforts to market career pathways.
