Photos and story by

On Thursday, Jan. 11, the Northwest Film Center, Oregon Partnership, Inc. and Jefferson High School present a film that shows how a new generation of community members and young people, with Portland filmmaker Sue Arbuthnot, are fighting to change the image, and realities, of the neighborhood.

The film “Reading Between the Lines” will show at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the Moriarty Arts and HumanitiesBuilding at the Cascade Campus.

Last year, through a collaboration between the NorthwestFilmCenter’s Young Filmmakers Program and Oregon Partnership, Inc., with support from the US office of Substance Abuse Prevention, more than 30 JeffersonHigh School teens had the opportunity to work with independent filmmaker Sue Arbuthnot to create an original film about the public’s misconceptions of their struggling inner-city campus. The film examines the high school’s controversial image in the media and in the community.
