Photos and story by James Hill
The Grants Office is pleased to announce the award of $8,600 from the U.S. Bancorp Foundation to the PCC Rock Creek New Directions Program.
This one-year grant will allow PCC’s New Directions program to provide education and career planning assistance and college information to Washington County low-income residents with limited English skills.
New Directions helps single parents and displaced homemakers develop job-readiness skills, explore careers, and make an education and career plan leading to financial self-sufficiency.
Through this grant, New Directions will develop and offer a course in Spanish at Adelante Mujeres, a non-profit social services agency in Forest Grove. Funds will be used to translate the New Directions curriculum into Spanish, provide a bilingual instructor, and purchase students’ books and supplies. By the end of project period, 40 low-income women will have completed a career plan and will ready to put their plan into action.
For more information, contact Christine Paull, coordinator of the Rock Creek Women’s Resource Center at 503-614-7448. Congratulations to New Directions!
