Upward Bound program is refunded by Dept. Of Education

Photos and story by

Congressman David Wu’s Office announced that the Sylvania’s Upward Bound Program has been refunded and that the grant award will be $250,000 per year. Upward Bound is funded by the U.S. Department of Education and the College. The program provides high school students with tutoring, advising, and mentoring experiences. Students also benefit from exposure to the college environment. Upward Bound students must be first generation college-bound students and/or meet low-income eligibility guidelines. Also, they must be in their first three years of high school at one of the following schools: Aloha, Sunset, Merlo Station, Tigard or Tualitan. Congratulations to Upward Bound Director Jean Garcia Chitwood, the Upward Bound staff, and Candy Solovjos, Director of Grant Development.
