NW Public Policy Institute looking for staff, students for training
Photos and story by James Hill
This year, the PCC Pacific Northwest Public Policy Institute will hold its moderator training session on Friday, Aug. 3 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sylvania Campus. The purpose of the workshop is to train moderators of National Issues Forums (NIF) and Study Circles.
NIF and Study Circles are models which provide opportunities for citizens to gather and deliberate challenging public issues. The process is very effective in providing forums for the public to engage in civil discussions about critical issues without entering into emotional debates. By introducing PCC faculty, staff and students to the model, the institute can then convene NIF’s throughout the college and community in order to engage students and community members in the deliberation of public issues.
If any PCC faculty, staff or students are interested in attending, and would then be willing to use the training to organize and conduct forums, contact Neal Naigus at 503-977-4122.
