Using collage to express creativity

Photos and story by

The art of collage has been practiced for centuries; as the art technique has developed over time, it become a popular form of expression for artists and non-artists alike. This summer Portland Community College will offer an opportunity to explore the basics of collage in a fun and creative environment.

The non-credit course, Collage: Revel in the Unexpected, explores collage from the basic idea of color and composition to techniques dealing with texture and surface treatment. Instructor Heather Williams will use acrylic paint, ink, dry drawing materials and glue on paper or canvas to create beautiful collages.

The class will meet from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesdays, July 10 through Aug. 14, in Room 109 of Building 3, at the Rock Creek Campus, 17705 N.W. Springville Road. Cost is $59.
