Portland Development Commission awards PCC grant for classrooms
Photos and story by James Hill
The Grants Office at PCC has announced the award of $20,000 from the Portland Development Commission to the PCC Physical Plant. This grant will allow for placement of PCC classrooms in the recently renovated Heritage Building located on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard.
Funds will be used specially for costs associated with constructing the PCC spaces. The college will occupy approximately 3,250 square feet on the lower level, which will include a classroom and exercise facility. PCC plans to begin offering non-credit, community education classes at the site in 2007-2008, including ballroom and Latin dancing, photography, Spanish, Italian, sustainability practices for businesses and stretching classes for runners.
This project will help to meet the PCC Board of Directors goal of “assuring that college programs are accessible to all residents of the district through effective use of technology and strategic location of facilities.”
