Spanish class for teachers helps bridge language gap

Photos and story by

Teaching is hard enough without having to deal with a language barrier. This summer, Portland Community College will offer teachers a course designed especially for them that will cover all the basics of the Spanish language in a fun learning environment.

In the non-credit class, Spanish for School Teachers, instructors get to learn effective methods to break the ice with Spanish-speaking students and parents. Instructor Gilda Bensel will explore simple classroom directions and commands in Spanish. The class will meet from 4 to 5:50 p.m., Wednesdays, June 25 through Aug. 13, Room 102, South Classroom Building, Sylvania Campus, 12000 S.W. 49th Ave. Cost is $119.
