Two grants go to PCC, International Ed hosts Cascade open house

The Early Childhood Education program has earned a $149,958 grant from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services to the Health Professions, Early Childhood Education and Physical Education Division at the Sylvania Campus. The focus of the funds will be on the Hispanic Head Start program (Adelante Maestros), which gives Spanish-speaking students, who have the goal of being Migrant or other Head Start teachers, the opportunity to earn an associate’s degree in early childhood education while learning college-level English.

Illumination Project given additional $100,000

The Ford Foundation has awarded a $100,000 grant for the Illumination Project. This grant will continue the work of the prior Ford Foundation grant using PCC’s Illumination Project to promote academic freedom and a climate of equality, justice, and respect with regard to religious and cultural diversity. The grant will support ongoing performances by the Illumination Project, while setting the stage for sustainable programming and project replication to other colleges.

International Education to host open house at Cascade

The Office of International Education is hosting an open house from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 7 in Room 214, SSB, Cascade Campus. The open house will be a chance to see the program’s new facilities and meet with international students, new and returning. This fall, the program has about 137 students taking their core classes at Cascade, 35 of which are new to the U.S.
