Women and the vote subject of docudrama at Cascade
Photos and story by James Hill
In an effort to get those last few women to turn in their ballots…allow us to present a gorgeous reminder of those who sacrificed for your legal right to vote, and how it wasn’t so very long ago:
The Project Independence Women in Film Series will screen:
“Iron Jawed Angels” (2004) Not Rated
6 p.m., Monday, Nov. 3.
Auditorium, Moriarty Arts and Humanities Buildings, Cascade Campus.
This film is free to students, faculty, and the public. Convince a doubtful voter of her right to participate! Inspire our future voters to be involved; arm them with knowledge of our collective past. Bring your students, daughters, your nieces, her friends, they will have lots to ask about on the way home! This historical biopic/docudrama entertains and inspires, despite the perception of an esoteric subject and relatively unknown historical characters.
The Project Independence Women in Film Series came about in response to this 2007 statistic: Out of the world’s top-25 grossing films that year, only two stories were predominantly women focused – one woman being a fairytale princess. The series strives to expose everyone to truer portrayals of women on the big screen.
