PCC gets grants for expansion of distance learning options

The Grants Office at PCC announced the award of $99,294 to PCC from the Oregon Department of Community Colleges & Workforce Development. This grant will provide for the expansion of the exploratory distance learning course, “Intro to Today’s Careers: Health” (CG 130H). The course is designed to raise awareness among high school students of the myriad options available to them for health care professions in Oregon. The class with be enhanced with the addition of career pathways offered at Mt Hood Community College and will be piloted to two local high schools to explore dual-credit options.

The college also received $54,973 from the Oregon Department of Community Colleges & Workforce Development to implement year two of a three-year project to create a virtual world location, or island, for all Oregon community colleges in Second Life. The island is a virtual environment that connects faculty, students and staff of Oregon community colleges within a larger virtual world.
