Photos and story by James Hill
On Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 3:30 p.m. at the Washington County Museum, Rock Creek Campus, Judy Goldmann will present “Trotting Horses of Washington County,” a presentation on the rich tradition of racehorse breeding in Washington County.
Race horses were being bred and trained in Washington County from the late 1800’s through the early 1900’s. For more than 40 years Goldmann has worked to preserve Washington County history with numerous organizations including the Genealogical Society of Washington County, the Washington County Historical Society and Museum, and the Oregon Historic Cemeteries Association. She has served as a board member, steward, historian, researcher, teacher, and author. While Judy’s great grandfather, Joseph Meek, made local history as a pioneer and statesmen, she is working to preserve that history.
The Washington County Museum is open 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays, except major holidays. Admission: $3 for adults, $2 for seniors and youth ages 6-17. Admission is free for children under 6, members, employees of corporate members, and PCC faculty, students and staff.
