SHORTTAKES: Spanish film set for Tuesday, Nov. 18
Photos and story by James Hill
On Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 3 p.m., in ST 101, Sylvania Campus, the film, “Guantanamera,” will be shown. It is the second installment of the Spanish-language film series hosted monthly by the Sylvania Spanish department and EdLa (Educación Latina, the Sylvania Latino Student Club). The film, which offers English subtitles, will be followed by an informal discussion. The film is free and open to all PCC faculty, staff and students!
“Guantanamera” is directed by renowned Cuban filmmaker Tomas Guiterrez Alea (“Strawberry and Chocolate”). Couched as a road story with a Cuban twist, the film “tosses love, farce and social comment into the broth to create a pleasing combination of romance and criticism of the Cuban order.”
Staff Development welcomes Berryman
The Staff Development Office has hired a new administrative assistant, Fern Berryman. Berryman has been at PCC for a little over a year now and worked previously in the registration office. She has more than 17 years experience in educational administration, an eye for detail, commitment to excellence, and buckets and buckets of patience, says Christine Chairsell, vice president of Academic and Student Affairs.
