The PCC delegation is heading home from D.C. soon
Photos and story by Dana Haynes
Just met with Rep. Earl Blumenauer and his delightful young legislative aide, Tyler Frisbee. As some of you know, Earl served on the board of directors for Portland Community College, decades ago. He gets our issues.
And his district includes both the Cascade District – which was modernized and revitalized by PCC’s 2000 bond measure – and the Southeast Center – which will get the same treatment, thanks to our successful 2008 bond campaign.
We couldn’t be here at a more important time. The House and Senate both passed economic stimulus packages. The House version has more money for post-secondary education. But the Senate version has a better distribution matrix (the money goes to schools according to full-time equivalent enrollment).
Anyway, it’s been an experience.
I have an appointment with rookie Congressman Kurt Schrader in a little while. After that, I take the shuttle to Dulles and fly home.
By the way: It’s supposed to his the upper 60s, possibly 70 degrees today. It’s sunny and gorgeous.
OK, that’s it. I’m home soon.
