Portland Community College will offer a sustainability short-term training course to place individuals into green jobs.
PCC’s free short-term training program is designed to help produce skilled workers for green industries and help them upgrade math, reading and writing skills in the process. The eight-week course is from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, April 27 through June 19. Interested students must attend one of two upcoming orientations – 1 to 3 p.m., Thursday, March 26, or 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 31 in Room 1508, Capital Career Center, 18624 N.W. Walker Road.
The training program in April will consist of a basic skills class to learn the fundamentals of green industries and prepare students to qualify for a certificate training program; information on PCC’s certificate programs in solar manufacturing, bioscience technician, renewable energy systems, HVAC installer or building construction technology; and job search assistance. The training also will take place at the Capital Career Center.
A math and reading assessment will be given prior to the class. This program is financed in whole or in part with funds provided through Worksystems, Inc., from the U.S. Department of Labor.
