McKee, Smith present at local innovation forum
Photos and story by James Hill
On March 27 and 28, two Sylvania leaders helped to guide the college’s initiative on sustainability. John McKee and Kim Smith participated in an environmental event, the Regional Innovation Forum, at the Portland Expo Center.
McKee, division dean for Science and Engineering, and Smith, sociology instructor, co-presented during the forum’s higher education session, geared to developing a pathway to hone a “green” workforce. McKee covered identifying resources and building alliances for a sustainable future and highlighted many of PCC’s green technology programs.
More than 30 local partners joined forces to create the two-day event that included a variety of presentations – ranging from energy solutions to social innovation to climate change and more – as well as a keynote presentation by Stephen Schneider, 2007 Nobel Prize winner, climatologist and professor at Stanford University. The forum was connected to the Better Living Show, a home, garden and lifestyle tradeshow where PCC hosted a booth showcasing the college’s many green programs.
Kudos to John and Kim!
