Photos and story by

Kristi Tompkins, a German instructor at PCC’s Sylvania Campus for the past 22 years, has been chosen by the Goethe Institute to attend a seminar from July 26 to Aug. 1, in Berlin, Germany.

Multiple workshops make up the seminar “Film City Berlin” (Filmstadt Berlin), which will assess the active film scene in Berlin today. The city is home to more than 300 theater and television films being produced there. Each workshop will have 20 students and the days consist of eight-hour sessions studies, all of which take place at the institute. Tompkins’ focus will be to study German film production and the integration of films into the classroom curriculum.

She will live in private housing with German professors from all over the world, giving her a multicultural experience. She will come back from the seminar with loads of material that she’ll share with other PCC language instructors.
