MAP hosts open house for Russians at Southeast Center
Photos and story by James Hill
On Dec. 16, the Prep’s Multicultural Academic Program, in collaboration with Russian Oregon Social Services, held an informational open house and holiday celebration for members of two Russian women’s groups in Southeast Portland. It was PCC’s first-ever open house targeting the Russian-speaking community and presented entirely in their language. There were more than 30 Russian community members in attendance.
PCC’s Russian-speaking staff described the opportunities available at PCC including the MAP program for 16-20 year old students who need to learn more about the college’s English, ESOL, adult basic skills, Career Pathways and credit offerings. Besides the useful information about PCC, everyone enjoyed the holiday celebration complete with Russian treats, singing, and dancing, said Maris Bishoprick, library technician. In addition, the Multicultural Academic Program produced a newsletter in Russian about the opportunities for students.
Congrats to the MAP crew!
